Winter is around us, and we’re optimistic that the snow will start adding up more. To date, we have not set any track, and we’re hopeful that some snow will fall so our annual Cookie Ski event on Sunday, December 15th can be held. We will be making an announcement on Friday if the event will happen or not, so stay tuned...

Along with the upcoming season we have families & individuals looking to sign-up as members, and looking for skis. If you have any skis you’re looking to sell or looking to buy some used equipment, we welcome people to bring them out to our event on December 15th as we will be holding an informal ski swap. We also welcome people to post any used equipment that is available onto our page so any members/followers who may be looking for equipment can see it.

Our ski rentals for Bunny/JackRabbits will also begin to be available as of December 15th, whether you pick them up at the Cookie Ski or arrange another time for pick-up for the season. Kids rentals are done for the full ski season. Please review the lease contract (right) & the rental policy (below). If you are looking to rent adult equipment, the club does have a limited supply of equipment that is available for rent for a day-use. Rentals are by donation, and we are also happy to accept any ‘Friends of LLB Nordic Ski Club’ donations as well. November 2019

A few weeks ago, we held our Annual General Meeting, and our Club President (Brent Magneson) provided the following report looking back at the 2018-19 Winter Season for Lac La Biche Nordic Ski Club.

It’s hard to believe that summer has gone and another ski season is upon us. The club had a successful 2018/19 season and we hope to continue to strengthen this in in the upcoming season.
Highlights of last season include the hosting of numerous successful events promoting physical activity and cross country skiing to the Lac La Biche County area residents. The club continued offering bunny/jackrabbits to the area youth with strong numbers once again. Club volunteer groomers kept the Shaw Lake Trails in great condition through out the winter for all to enjoy. Among other events, the club hosted a fun and well attended Cookie Ski in December and hosted two very well attended Saturday Afternoon Adult Skis for the first time. Kim lending club skis from her house also proved very successful and was able to get many people out enjoying cross country skiing who may not have other wise. Hopefully these people become regulars out on the trails. Once again, this past year I feel that there was a significant increase in the amount of cross country skiers who took advantage of groomed trails at Shaw Lake, both local and non-local because of the effort of club volunteers. This is great to see and good job!
The club received three grants last year totaling $2000. These grants were received from Lac La Biche County, Festival of Trees and LLB Kinsmen Club. We are putting this grant money towards the purchase of additional youth rental equipment and future coach development. Alberta Parks has also continued to be a great supporter of the club once again over the past year. The club greatly appreciates the support from all these local organizations which to allow us to continue to promote & provide physical fitness and cross country skiing opportunities to the community.
I look forward to another fun & successful winter of cross country skiing once again. The club has many events planned throughout the ski season, starting with the Cookie Ski in December. Although I enjoy summer, I am looking forward to getting some snow and getting out on the beautiful ski trails that the Lac La Biche area has to offer.

There's beginning to be a chill in the air, more frost on the ground, and even a few snowflakes falling here & there. Of course it'll be a while until our season is underway for the 2019-20 Lac La Biche Nordic Ski Club, but we're starting to plan & get ready for the upcoming season.

We'd like to invite everyone to our Annual AGM Meeting on Thursday, November 7th at 6:30pm happening at the Bold Center on the 2nd floor in the lounge area. The meeting is open to all club members & the public. Feel free to join us as we discuss the past year & what's upcoming for 2019-20 season!

March 2019

 With the change of seasons, and the quick turn around from February's -30C temperatures to March's +15C, our snow has sure been disappearing quickly!

Though our skiing season has completed, we'd love to give a shout out to our coaches and our 16 young BunnyRabbit & JackRabbit skiers this season! Great work to all the registered skiers, your skills are getting better each year, week, and day that you ski! To our coaches - THANK YOU! Without your dedication, these lessons would not be possible.

Another big thank you goes out to the Lac La Biche Lions Club, we were a recipient of a Festival of Trees donation. We look forward to putting that towards additional ski equipment to help make this sport more accessible for people to try out!

In the last weeks of skiing, we had Spirit North bring exposure of our beautiful trails to various school groups. Over 50 young skiers enjoyed Shaw Lake Day Use Area, in Lakeland Provincial Park, at each event! No matter the weather, those kids totally enjoyed their afternoon of getting to ski on some new trails!

Our club will be at the 2019 Volunteer Fair at the Bold Center Thursday, April 11 from 4pm-8pm. Please come visit our table and check out this free community event.

February 2019

It's still winter in the area, and we've been skiing a lot! The warm days were welcomed in January, however that pesky rain/melting is a bit of a burden on grooming. Our grooming volunteers are working on getting the trails all back into great shape, and with more snow in the forecast, they're looking to keep up and work on them more.

Our club has decided to shift around a few dates from our prior calendar of events, and we're excited to have the remaining lessons all at Shaw Lake Day Use Area for Sundays: February 3, February 24, & March 3.

The Ski Lesson & Community Ski originally planned for Sunday, February 10 will be lessons & a ski tour around at Caslan School. The club will not have the extra equipment available on-site that day, but if you'd like to rent some in advance for this event, or other ski days contact Kim at 780-623-4894 and arrange sizes & pick up. Members & non-members are welcome to meet for a ski that day from 2pm - 4pm.

Sunday, February 17th will be the free family Fun in the Snow event, with Lac La Biche Ski Club, Alberta Parks, the LLB Lions Club, & food sponsorship from Britton's Independent. This is always a great day full of outdoor recreation, free hot-dog roast, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and more! (see attached poster).

Our club year-end wind up event will be held on Sunday, February 24 with ski lessons & a community ski at Shaw Lake Day Use Area. We welcome everyone to come celebrate the amazing skills our BunnyRabbits & JackRabbits have developed over the season, and to enjoy an afternoon skiing for themselves too. This event is open to members & non-members with extra equipment available for use.
